Thayatalweg & memories of Nürnberg

I only made one hike during the past weeks. It should have been two, as always, but when I wanted to make the hike for the first time, I was in the train that collided with a car between Irnfritz and Göpfritz. We had to wait for hours inside the train until the rail replacement service was organized. So of course I missed the bus to Raabs an der Thaya. And there were so many kids, it was so loud... The children hat to carry their suitcases up the ladder. We also heared the helicopter from the train but I (and probably also all the other travellers) only realized how serious the accident was when I read the article in the Presse. So, after we were rescued, I went to Göpfritz with the rail replacement, then I went back to Irnfritz with another rail replacement, and there I took the next train to Vienna, it was early afternoon by then.

The hike I wanted to make was the part of the Thayatalweg from Raabs to Eibenstein. I made the hike exactly one week later. It is a nice hike, but it is not quite easy. Until the Kollmitzgraben it is actually easy, but between Kollmitzgraben and Eibenstein most of the time I had to keep my kamera in my backpack. So during the hike I thought that it was not exactly a good hike for photographers, but when I checked out the photos on the next day, I was satisfied. It was also quite a lonely hike. I only met two or three squirrels, and when I had almost reached Eibenstein, I let a group of three elderly hikers pass. But I did not get sour muscles even though I hadn't really been hiking for months.

This is Ebenstein, seen from the Thaya bridge, close to where I let the group pass:

And this is the Burgruine Kollmitz from inside:

Before this hike, I ran out of photos for Pixelfed and so I went through the photos that I took during the photo walk at LGM2025, and I happened to find quite some nice ones among them. One of them even got more than 100 likes.

I like this one very much but it didn't get many likes:

Nürnberg

I want to mention that I am on a diet since July. During my father's illness I lost 2 or 3 kilograms and went down to 51. After his death I gained several kilograms until I was at 55, that was in January or so. During spring I gained another two and so I decided that it was time to stop this. So I am counting the calories and it seems that it works. But I think that it is really important to not have a daily deficit of more than 500 calories (at least for an average women), otherwise you trigger starvation mode and maybe even gain weight even though eating little. If you don't count calories, there is quite a big risk of having too much deficit.

Well, after three months, I am again at 54 kilograms, which is almost my normal weight before my father's illness. My goal is 52. It is absolutely not necessary to starve, but you have to count the calories precisely. I had never been on a diet before and I had never had weight issues until now. But apparently I cannot eat as much as I used to when I was young any more. Apparently I will have to count the calories for the rest of my life.

By the way, don't rely on apps such as Samsung health or Google health - they only show like 1300 calories on a day when I go swimming, so in average 500 calories less than what is appropriate. Big danger of triggering starvation mode! And one more thing: one might think that salads have few calories, but the opposite is the case if you put 2-3 tablespoons of oil into the dressing - a little bread with chicken or turkey breast is better (less calories and more protein).

So I guess that's it for this month.
