I made three hikes during the past weeks. In January I spent almost two weeks in Budapest. I made a hike in Dobogókö, where I visited both famous Danube viewpoints. I chose this trail because I thought that it's easy and that an easy hike is ok for a winter hike. However... it's actually not that easy, also it's at least two kilometers longer than stated on the website. Especially the first part around the Thierring rocks is almost a bit dangerous. I had to put the camera into my backpack there, well and the trail was a bit slippery, because there was a little snow. Otherwise, it's a nice hike, I can recommend it, but of course it's much nicer in the spring or fall. Well... the Zsivány rocks are not that impressive, and very close to them I saw a bore. It was not afraid at all, at least much less than me. Of course there were few hikers... well, although Dobogókö is a very touristy spot in Hungary, it's not very touristy at this time of the year.
You can find more photos in the gallery, these are the least successful ones on Pixelfed. In the second pic, you can see Visegrád in the background, it's tiny and surrounded by the fog.
Back in Vienna, approximately two weeks ago, I made a "hike" in Mönichkirchen, which was actually only a longer walk along the ski slope. I don't recommend it, although it's part of the long distance hiking trail along the Wiener Alpenbogen (WAB). There is not much to photograph. Well... no real snow, only artificial snow, although around 1200 meters above sea level. My followers on Pixelfed are hungry for winter landscapes with snow, but I have none...
And a few days ago I made another hike, which was probably the best one since a long time. It was the trail from Rohr im Gebirge to the Jochart and back. But again, no snow, and if you zoom into the pic, you can see that even on the top of the Schneeberg there is no thick snow cover. The hike itself is marked as easy but it's really not easy. Certainly it's no hike for families with little children. It's not actually dangerous, but the trail is quite steep both uphill and downhill, and therefore exhausting. I got sour muscles. I wanted to make an easy hike, and it was in about as easy as I expected. Anyway, you have to put the camera into your backpack for about three quarters of the hike.
